What the surviving evidence establishes
Travis Smith discussed Shogun’s title and Trivium’s musical direction with PyroMusic in excerpts published on 25 September 2008. He traced the title idea to Matt Heafy’s experience in Japan and explained why the band felt it suited the material they were writing.
The conversation also considered listeners’ responses to The Crusade, comparisons with Metallica and preparations for touring with Slayer. Smith’s comments capture the drummer’s view at that stage of the band’s career. Tour plans in this record belong to 2008 and should not be presented as current dates. [1]
