What the surviving evidence establishes
Satyricon drummer Frost discussed The Age of Nero with PyroMusic’s Spiritech in an interview excerpted on 1 December 2008. He considered its production and songs a new high point for the band, while stressing that he heard it as a distinct record rather than a repeat of Now, Diabolical.
The central question was how a black metal band can retain its identity while changing. Frost defended the differences between Satyricon’s albums and resisted expectations for another version of an earlier favourite. His assessment belongs to the album’s 2008 release period; the surviving report also contains separate concert footage. [1]
